Maximum distance between anchors

Hello again.

I configured four anchors and one tag using the QM33120WDK2. The configuration instructions are in the link below.

https://docs.leapslabs.com/udk/udk-start/downlink-tdoa-rtls-demo/#anchor-dtdoa

The connection between tags and anchors is very unstable in a 10m x 15m space. When requesting leaps_anchor_list_get from the tag, it usually finds only one or three anchors, and very rarely finds all four.

The test was conducted on the rooftop of a building, in an unobstructed space. Each anchor was mounted on a stand about 1m high. The tag is attached to the top of a small drone and connects to a Raspberry Pi, transmitting and receiving data. I don’t believe the signal is being blocked by anything. Also, the anchors are spaced 10-15m apart, so I don’t think the distance is too large.

What is the recommended spacing between anchors? And is there a minimum distance between a tag and an anchor?

Hi,

The 10 x 15 m grid size for 4 Anchors should be no problem.

  • Especially when you place them on the 1m tripods. That should work well.
  • The antenna is on the top side of the device as shown on this picture: https://docs.leapslabs.com/_images/for-buttons.png
  • The best orientation of the device is upward for the Tag.
  • And downward for the Anchor if they are at height 2+m. If they are at similar level to the Tags then their orientations can be the same.
  • Can you check please which RF compliance have you been using?

Cheers,
TDK
